Research an RIA’s technology stack from public evidence
An RIA’s public website can provide technology clues through client-login destinations, provider links and explicit product descriptions. Preserve those observations as evidence, and confirm the actual relationship before treating them as an installed technology stack.

What to take away
- A linked client portal is more specific than an incidental brand mention.
- Provider, custodian and integration relationships are different facts.
- Public evidence does not establish purchasing intent or dissatisfaction.
A real provider-link search. The matching portal destination is visible next to its firm, making the evidence available for review before outreach.
Separate what you observed from what you infer
Technology research often starts with a recognizable vendor name. That name may appear in a client login, a blog post, an employee’s previous experience or a list of integrations. Record the context first. The same word can support very different conclusions depending on where it appears.
Use language such as observed client-portal link or firm describes an integration in your research notes. Avoid upgrading a website observation to confirmed customer unless you have evidence that supports that stronger claim. This distinction makes your list more useful to a salesperson who needs a credible opening question.
| Observation | Reasonable next step |
|---|---|
| Public client-login destination | Check the official page and ask about the relevant workflow |
| Vendor named in a service description | Read the relationship the firm actually describes |
| Vendor mentioned in an article | Determine whether the author is discussing or using it |
| No matching text | Research further; coverage or terminology may be incomplete |
Inspect the public source without crossing into an account
Read the public page that contains the link and note its destination. You do not need to sign in to a client account to document a public login link. Keep the source page and observation date together so another researcher can reproduce your finding.
For example, the 103 Advisory Group record shown here includes a client-portal destination under a Tamarac domain. It provides a concrete compatibility question for a technology seller. It does not reveal the firm’s contract terms, software edition, implementation status or number of users. The screenshot is an observation captured in October 2026, not a live confirmation today.
Add business context before prioritizing
A possible platform relationship becomes more useful when combined with the firm’s stated services, operating model and relevant people. Decide what problem your product solves for that kind of account. A shared integration can make a conversation relevant without proving that the prospect is ready to change anything.
Build separate lists for different observations when the next action differs. One list might contain firms with a public portal link; another might contain firms whose websites discuss an integration. Review the sources before combining them. This prevents a clean-looking filter from hiding a mix of strong and weak evidence.
Turn the observation into a useful question
An opening can acknowledge the public workflow and ask how the team handles the adjacent problem your product addresses. Keep the question open. Claims that the firm is unhappy with a provider, preparing a migration or actively buying require separate evidence.
BreakawayIQ exposes observed technology and client-portal evidence where collected. Coverage is limited, and a vendor link is not a contract verification service. Use the platform to shorten discovery, then confirm the facts that matter to your offer with the account itself.
Your research checklist
- Label the observation type.
- Keep the public source and observation date.
- Connect the clue to a relevant business problem.
- Confirm the relationship before describing it as an installed product.
