Before advisor outreach, build a better account brief
A useful advisor outreach brief connects three things: a specific firm-level observation, a person whose role relates to your offer, and a question that is still worth answering. Build that brief before choosing an email template or starting a sequence.

What to take away
- Choose the relevant responsibility before choosing the person.
- Verify affiliation and source context when several records describe a person.
- Keep public contact details separate from mailbox-verification status.
The People tab on a real firm profile. The screen labels source records explicitly because multiple records may describe the same person.
Start with the job your product helps someone do
An investment product, operations service and client-facing software package can require different conversations inside the same firm. Write down which responsibility is closest to your offer. Then look for a reported role or biography that makes the person relevant to that responsibility.
A title is a starting point. A chief compliance officer may help assess an implementation without owning its budget. A founder may delegate day-to-day platform decisions. Note the reason for considering a person and the question you need to ask about the decision process. This produces a useful brief even when the full buying group is not public.
Check identity before creating the contact
Compare the name, firm affiliation, role and source. Differences in middle names, initials or formatting can produce multiple records for one person. A name match alone is not enough to merge them, and a difference in spelling is not enough to treat them as different prospects.
Review an available official biography or regulatory source before relying on a role. If the record only documents a historical relationship, keep that distinction in the brief. BreakawayIQ currently retains source-level people records while identity resolution is being improved; do not interpret every displayed row as a separate individual.
Write a brief a colleague can use
Keep the brief short enough to read before a call. Include the observed fact, why it could matter, the person you are considering and the open question. A source link is useful because the colleague may interpret the evidence differently or discover that it has changed.
Use the example below as a research structure. It is an illustrative draft, not a statement about a particular firm or a proven message template.
Let the brief determine the next action
If the evidence is weak, research further. If the role is unclear, ask for the appropriate person rather than asserting that you have found the buyer. If the account is relevant but already being worked, add your finding to the existing sales record instead of starting another sequence.
Published email addresses do not by themselves establish deliverability, current ownership or permission to contact someone. BreakawayIQ does not currently provide a live verified-person-email service. Check contact status in your outreach process and respect existing preferences and suppression lists.
Where publisher feeds are available, following a firm can help you find a later article worth reading before another conversation. Treat the post as context, not evidence that the firm has entered a buying window. A better brief gives your team something specific to discuss without making claims the research cannot support.
Your research checklist
- Identify the responsibility related to your offer.
- Check the person’s current affiliation and duplicate records.
- Write one sourced observation and one open question.
- Review existing account activity and contact status before outreach.
